Sri Kumara Swamigalu was born in 1867 AD at Joyisana Haralalli Village of Ranibannur Taluk of Dharwad District, Karnataka. His childhood name was Halayya.

The family of swamigalu was economically very poor. The family was a joint family. Two or three members of the family used to go for Kanthi begging to nearby villages for food. The swamigalu also was going for begging in some days. Once a person told swamigalu to stop begging and to study some thing. And he decided to study.

He studied up to 3rd standard in his own village and then he shifted to Kajjari village and appeared for his matriculation. Although he was noted as a best student in the school, he failed to get pass in Matriculation. This shows destiny of each person. If he had passed metrics, he would be a teacher in his village, according to he wish. But God decided that he shall render his service to mankind.

When he failed in his metric, he left his village and went to Lingadalli Village and started a school there. By this time, his mother came to the village and put a marriage proposal infront of him. He told his mother that from that day, there will be no relation between him and his family. He gave some money to his mother before sending her back. Then he left the village and went to Siddaruda Mutt to study about Nijaguna Shivayogi.

When he was in Hubballi, He discussed with the seer of Eradu etthu mutt about his doubts, but was not fully satisfied. As the advice of the seer, he went to Emmiganooru Jadasiddeshwara and got his doubts clarified. Later he came back to Hubli and continue visiting Siddarooda mutt. Later he became a disciple of Yediyur Basavalinga Swamiji.

Hanagal Shri Kumaraswamiji’s mutt was very famous at that time. The then seer was searching for an eligible successor. At that time, he noticed Halayya and appointed him as his successor.
